A GLASS PARTNERSHIP

A collection of contemporary vases that preserves and interprets the quintessential Venetian legacy. Sestiere perpetuates traditional glass processing and creatively reinterprets it in a lively tribute to Venice.

The vase is designed as a blown glass ball that is almost harnessed by a net of cords. Each cord, or ‘morisa’ in the Murano tradition, is applied by hand to the exterior of the vase, lending it a pleasingly imperfect effect. The morise are decorated with ‘rigadin’, the typical striped motif of the lagoon.

Vase and cord, two very different glass languages, harmoniously co-exist to create an unprecedented partnership between form, function and craftsmanship. Each vase becomes a unique piece, a visible and tangible expression of hand craftsmanship.

The Sestiere vases combine the ancient artisan Murano glass-blowing techniques with contemporary design ‒ a blown glass ball that is enveloped, almost harnessed, by the net-like ‘morise’ cords, decorated with the typical striped motif of the lagoon. The traditional vivid colours interact with a clean, sharp design for a boldly graphic appearance.
