Theatrical modernity
The idea for Antropus originated in the late 1940s, when the Piccolo Teatro of Milan asked Marco Zanuso to design the sets and furnishings for the play “La Famiglia Antropus” [The Skin of Our Teeth] by Thornton Wilder. The renowned architect availed himself of the opportunity to craft a piece of furniture clad entirely in foam rubber, a highly innovative material at that time.

The idea for Antropus originated in the late 1940s, for the production of a play “La Famiglia Antropus” [The Skin of Our Teeth] by Thornton Wilder. The Piccolo Teatro of Milan called upon Marco Zanuso to design of the sets and furnishings. With Arflex, the architect created an armchair clad entirely in foam rubber, at the time considered a highly innovative material, favoured in home furnishings for its excellent expressive, ergonomic and industrial potential. Currently manufactured in polyurethane foam fill, the armchair is easily shaped into an amply sized, comfortable backrest and seat confined within the sharp, sinuous silhouette of the side panels. The ideal solution to modern furnishing of lounge and lobby areas and executive offices.
