Soriana  by Afra & Tobia Scarpa - Cassina Roy Roger’s is a unique limited edition of 50 armchairs born from the exclusive encounter between the two Italian companies. The iconic armchair’s soft, generous forms are dressed in sophisticated selvedge denim by Roy Roger's, the first Italian blue jeans

Thanks to its historical tradition in the production of high-quality denim, Japan becomes the exclusive setting for this launch. Fine, 20 ounce rigorously selvedge Japanese denim made in Yokohama, famous for its superior quality, clads the unmistakable curves of Soriana by Afra & Tobia Scarpa - Cassina Roy Roger’s. The fabric is made of special American cotton with a very long fibre that ensures great resistance and durability of the finished product. Woven on original vintage shuttle looms from 1960, it has the singular peculiarity of creating a "flock" on the selvage, a sign of craftsmanship that only these ancient looms, now very rare, are capable of producing.

PRODUCTION YEAR

Jeans from the historic Roy Roger's archive were the inspiration for the wash: stone-washed effects and handmade distressing run along the folds of the armchair, highlighting its elegant and enveloping design. A finely balanced alternation of light and dark gives authenticity to this piece that skilfully combines fashion and design.

This soft and abundant upholstery is held in place by the model’s distinctive large metal brace made of copper, the same material used for the rivets on the five-pocket jeans. The Soriana by Afra & Tobia Scarpa - Cassina Roy Roger’s is completed with an aged leather tag hot-stamped with the logo Cassina + Roy Roger’s and progressive number, from 1 to 50, guaranteeing the uniqueness of each piece.

The specifics of this masterpiece are included on the info tag tucked away inside the iconic Roy Roger's zipper pocket that accompanies the armchair.

A true style icon, Soriana was originally designed in 1969 by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina and awarded a Compasso d’Oro prize the following year. In the 1960s and 1970s, Cassina was pioneering in the way that it experimented with innovative materials to create new forms and industrially develop its designs with the most advanced solutions. Today, this avant-garde approach continues with the implementation of new production methods and materials while maintaining the original design concept and aesthetic allure.

Thanks to the work carried out by Cassina LAB, Soriana by Afra & Tobia Scarpa - Cassina Roy Roger’s has been developed with a responsible approach through the use of circular materials. The structure of the armchair is made up of a series of bags filled with microspheres made from BioFoam®, the first patented organic-based foam composed of biopolymers derived from natural sources; this material is durable, biodegradable and compostable at the end of its life cycle. Comfort is provided by its 100% recycled PET blown fibre padding recovered from Plastic Bank®, the same material also used to pad the slipcover that envelops its internal structure like a soft quilt.

Roy Roger’s is the first Italian jeans brand, born in 1952 in Tuscany. Today Roy Roger's jeans are the result of a constant search for materials of the highest quality and on-going experimentation of innovative washes, artisan crafting, and cutting-edge technologies. Above all, they come from an ability to reinvent historic styles, creating new ways of wearing and enjoying blue jeans. Starting out as workwear, over the years jeans have become a cult object and genuine style icon. Today, they also interpret the wearer's personality. Roy Roger's was born as a family-run business and still is today. Three generations share the same passion for denim and continue with the idea that "There is no future if you don't have a real story” because you need continuous research and an aptitude for change to be able to face the future, but you must never forget your past. Roy Roger's jeans are recognized from several details that have remained over the years, like the black triangle on the back pocket — always a signature of the brand — and the zippers on the back pockets, an idea born and patented in the 50s to protect personal belongings during work. Another detail is the "money pocket" on the front, designed for keeping loose change at hand. But authentic Roy Roger's jeans are recognized first and foremost by the quality of the raw material and craftsmanship, all made in Italy. When we talk about quality, we don't just mean the choice of excellent raw materials and innovative processes, but also the way that a product is made. This is why Roy Roger’s is constantly striving to decrease our environmental impact, expand our collections with items made from organic or recycled cotton, and use recyclable, eco-sustainable packaging. That's because for Roy Roger’s, every small choice is crucial for building a better world.
